'05 Jenke Merlot This wine is a medium to full bodied style highlighting the characters of Merlot. Sweet and generous aroma’s of ripe plums, blueberries and juicy mulberries are complimented by some savoury herbal characteristics. A veritable mouthful of fleshy fruit flavors – plum, cherries and redcurrants underlined by soft dusty tannins. There are some savoury spices that balance the fruit, adding character and complexity to the long lingering finish. The grapes were harvested at optimum ripeness (14be) and crushed into an open top fermenter. The wine fermented on skins for 10 days. After pressing, the wine was put into 100% French oak barrels where it completed its fermentation and remained on yeast lees for 9 months. The wine was racked and returned to barrel for another 15 months maturation. The wine was then bottled with only light fining. No filtration was used.
